'Kemi Asekun's Profile

'Kemi Asekun is a Nigerian born broadcaster with the gift of the Gab. A gift noticeable as early as when she was the Class Reader of Comprehension passages at between the Ages of 6 and 9.

Oluwakemi  or 'Kemi for Short was born in a Hospital in Apapa area of Lagos into the family of The Late Ademola Asekun a Business man and the man who conceptualized the idea of guarding Electricity equipment from Vandals all over Nigeria . She lost her father at a little over 5 years and things took a turn for the worse as it is the lot of a lot of Nigerian children who lost their fathers at an early age.

Undeterred by the loss of her husband her Mother Ade Asekun now Isu ,a housewife before becoming a widow did all she could to give 'Kemi and her 3 sisters a good education, which sometimes meant she had to turn down party invitations for lack of socially accepted Clothing.

At 9 Kemi was privileged to have another father albeit a Step-Dad and of course Step-Brothers and Sisters.

Radio
Kemi cut her teeth with the Lagos State broadcasting outfit Eko-FM and Radio Lagos, where she after only a year went on to anchor the station's flagship breakfast show "LAGOS THIS MORNING." She proved more than able to fill the outsized shoes of the ace broadcaster Kayode Akintemi, who had moved on to other assignments.

In asking her to succeed her highly experienced predecessor, her bosses knew they had taken on a gamble. But it was a risk they were more than willing to take, as they saw in Kemi something the rest of the world will in time come to appreciate - an  intelligent mind, a teachable spirit, and a great voice.

"It was a humbling yet exhilarating role",she quipped  but one Kemi carried off with aplomb and supreme self-confidence, as she took on some of the most influential, knowledgeable and interesting personalities in Lagos State - such as the then Deputy Gov of the state Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan; the current Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi (who at the time had mounted a legal challenge to get his first-term mandate);  State Commissioners, Heads of government Ministries, Parastatals and agencies, Lawmakers, both at State and Federal level; Entrepreneurs and Captains of Industry; Entertainment and Sports Celebrities, and others.

She was a part of the Lagos State Radio Services  crew to the inauguration of the 2007 State House of Assembly Members.

Kemi Asekun has on many occasions found herself on the other side of the microphone, having been interviewed on print and online media outlets.

In the role of Azaria (her creative alter-ego)

Kemi has conceptualized several programmes that have endeared her to young people and the young at heart. These programmes include a show on gratitude tagged
Gratitude Thursdays; where she acknowledges and teaches the importance of gratitude and being thankful to both God and Humans

 People's Parliament (where people sound off on government policies,traditional institutions and other topical issues);

Fantasy Money Mondays (where Kemi discusses bizarre circumstances and asks young persons the lengths to which they would go for the huge amounts of money depicted on the show).

The end result of each episode of the latter programme is that she educates listeners about the right decisions and choices to make in respect of  money, and the ways in which they can earn money legitimately - as fantasy money is a fluke.

The programme's effect is to encourage handwork, but in a fun and subliminal way designed to arrest the consciousness and consciences of its young audiences.

Kemi has featured on several shows across the media spectrum such as Morning Digest with Jimi Disu, Football Fever, Timebound Sports amongst others.

Her hearty chuckle,as well as her candid advice on issues concerning human interactions, became well-recognized morning staples in a number of Nigerian homes, further endearing  her to many listeners.

Kemi Asekun (aka Azaria) possesses unique gifts include an arresting voice, a head that is well read, and a heart filled with empathy. She loves singing, reading ,writing,voice-acting and listening to music.

The music of Fuji exponent, King Sunny Ade is a particular favorite because of its profuse use of  proverbs, prayers and wise words.
