A waitress from a small town in Michigan was given a happy start to the new year after receiving a tip of $2,020 (£1,523) on a meal only costing $23 (£17).
Danielle Franzoni, from Alpena in Michigan, got the generous tip on Sunday while on shift at the Thunder Bay River Restaurant.
She told The Alpena News: "Things like this don't happen to people like me."
When she took the credit card receipt after the customer had paid, she saw the amount, with a message saying: "Happy New Year. 2020 Tip Challenge".
The 31-year-old single mother said she could not believe the number on the receipt, and had to be assured by the manager that the tip was real - which was almost 88 times what the customer paid for the meal.
Ms Franzoni wants to use the cash to reinstate her driving licence and build a savings pot - a year on from living in a homeless shelter.
She added: "They don't know nothing about my story. They don't know where I've come from. They don't know how hard it's been.
